The Taniwha - Saturday, 8th November

October 20, 2014

The Taniwha is all set to hit the trails again on 8 November, 2014. This event celebrates the endeavours undertaken by the Waikato River Trails Trust over the past 11 years, culminating in around 100km of top quality trails, most of it on previously inaccessible land along the mighty Waikato River. In partnership with the Waikato River Trails Trust and Shine, Total Sport brings to you an epic, challenging yet achievable event utilising the Waikato River Trails - a point to point event that will offer individuals and teams of all ages, abilities and levels of fitness, the opportunity to run/walk or mountain bike these amazing trails in a major participation event.

The Waikato River Trails wind their way along a path that captures the essence of the natural beauty of New Zealand - native bush, exotic forest, historic landmarks, interesting geological formations, open reserves, boardwalks over wetlands, and stunning single track taking in expansive lake and river views throughout. So come and join lots of like-minded people on Sat 8 Nov this year, and take on as much of the stunning Waikato River Trails as you want, either on foot, or on two wheels - as an individual, or as a team! There are several individual and team event options - mountain bike or run / walk. And when times get tough while competing in your chosen event option it will help to know that part of your entry fee is helping our very worthy event charity Shine to prevent domestic abuse in New Zealand. Welcome to the newest event in the Total Sport event portfolio, "The Taniwha"!

'Waikato Taniwharau - he piko he taniwha he piko he taniwha' ... on every bend of the Waikato River is a guardian.

My journey with T1D has been hugely transformational in a very positive way so far. Hence I have decided to really test my capabilities as an athlete and T1 Diabetic while fundraising for the organisation who helps others like me. I have chosen to compete in the Tarawera 102km Ultramarathon as a way of testing my body to its absolute limit, physically, mentally and ‘diabetically’.
