Curly Jacobs to attempt Tarawera Double

It is with great excitement that we can announce that Hoka One One NZ sponsored ultra runner Grant "Curly"Jacobs will be attempting a Tarawera Ultramarathon Double.

On the afternoon of February 5th Curly will depart Kawerau on foot, running through the night and covering 102km to arrive in Rotorua at the event start line. After a quick bite to eat, he will then join the masses and return to Kawerau as an official entrant in this year's race.

When asked what he was most looking forward to about the challenge, Curly said it was four things: completing it; eating a lot of food, wearing Hoka One One shoes and the sponge baths. As for the things he was not looking forward to, Curly said it is the fear of the unknown; falling or tripping on some of the more challenging terrain and making sure he will be at the start line in Rotorua in time to do it all again!

For Curly - whose previous longest single run was 160km on the road - this will present a serious challenge and he'll be looking for all the support he can get on the trails.

Since 2014 I’ve completed close to 200 running and obstacle course racing events, including 5 ultramarathons and around 25 marathons. An immense amount of credit goes towards incorporating cross training into my regimen.
