HOKA: Tell us about yourself! What do you do for HOKA, and what does your day-to-day look like?

“Don’t call it a comeback, I’ve been here for years…” 🙂 5.8 to be exact. I am Jared Smith, a Product Line Manager for Performance Run at HOKA. Day-to-day is always changing and presents a unique opportunity to collaborate with talented product designers, developers, athletes, consumer insights leaders all with the goal of making better product.

HOKA: Where did the idea for the Tecton X come from? How long has the creation process taken? Were any athletes included in testing this shoe?

The Tecton X ideation started a few years ago as our team collectively brainstormed how we could provide a highly propulsive, responsive, cushioned and race-ready trail shoe for our athletes and consumers. Huge credit goes to the designer, Matt Head, innovation manager, Thibaut Poupard, and developer Steven Cusick, collectively we worked to find the right balance of cushion, propulsion, responsiveness and feel the Tecton X delivers on all and then some. Through several iterations, multiple rounds of testing with some athlete integration we landed with the product that I couldn’t be more excited to help debut.

HOKA: What are the key differences between the Tecton X and other HOKA trail running shoes?

The most obvious difference would be the parallel (toe-to-heel) carbon fiber plates that help maintain the rocker profile, provide a propulsive ride as well as allow for dynamic lateral movement, like struts on a vehicle. Additionally, we feature a new foam for the HOKA trail line-up that is lighter and more responsive that provides a uniquely smooth and speedy ride experience.

HOKA: What are you most proud of in the Tecton X? Why do you think the Tecton X is so great?

Can I say everything? Cool, everything. The development process to bring this style to life was incredible, filled with a ton of learning that has helped make this shoe better has also provided the opportunity to leverage some of those learnings across the HOKA line-up. The Tecton X is so great for several reasons, in my opinion, it provides a truly unique ride experience that’s authentically HOKA while pushing conventional norms of what a trail shoe can do. We are excited for everyone to have the opportunity to experience it for themselves!

HOKA: Who is the shoe for?

The shoe is designed and built for those looking for a unique and speedy ride on the trail that provides a balanced experience that is smooth, responsive, and propulsive.
