Originally, I was a young track athlete, representing New Zealand at World Youth level. Nearly 10 years ago my neighbour suggested trying Off-Road Triathlon – Xterra - and I’ve been hooked ever since! The adrenaline and joy I get from mountain biking and trail running continually grows, probably why everyone says I’m always smiling out there. Having achieved World Amateur Champion, I decided to compete PRO (while still maintaining a full-time job). Results were very promising and since early 2015 I’ve been exploring what I can achieve with more training and racing under my belt (and part-time work). Xterra Philippines 2016 was my first Professional win.
I’ve used the Hoka One One Hupana as a work shoe for a couple of years, but early 2018 my podiatrist recommended using the Clifton as a training shoe. I was recovering from a Talus bone fracture and can honestly say this was instrumental in making my return to running easier and success this season. While on the Xterra European Tour I also trialled the Speedgoat 2 and found these were perfect for trail racing and were the shoes I flew into 3rd Elite at World Xterra Champs late October - you may have seen it on the NZ news / ESPN etc.
2019 will be a big season. The Asia Pacific Champs in Taiwan is the next race on my schedule, I'm investigating if I can take the time off work to get to that. I will then finish my work contract in May, and focus on a 6-month trip covering the Xterra European Tour running May - September (Malta, Portugal, Belgium, Switzerland, France, Italy, Czech - European champs - Poland, Germany, Luxembourg, Nederlands). Then defending my podium position at World Champs in late October.
